The suspect in the gun slaying of a barangay chairwoman in Tondo, Manila, was shot dead after he opened fire at the policemen who were out to arrest him Thursday night.
Police identified the fatality as Aldrian Tayag, 20, a resident of Hermosa Street, Tondo.
Prior to the incident, a concerned citizen informed the Jose Abad Santos Police Station that Tayag was seen roaming around Hermosa Street, wearing a maroon shirt, denim pants, face mask and sunglasses to conceal his face.
The lawmen immediately swooped down on the area around 7:05 p.m. and spotted Tayag.
As the cops moved to apprehend him, Tayag allegedly pulled out a .45-caliber pistol and fired shots at the policemen.
The lawmen retaliated, killing Tayag on the spot.
Operatives recovered from the scene the suspect’s loaded gun and a sachet of suspected shabu.
Tayag had been tagged as the suspect in the killing of 43-year-old Nenita Acuña, chairwoman of Barangay 200, Zone 18, District 2 in Tondo on the night of March 1.
The attack happened while Acuña and other village officials were on their way back to their outpost, after installing tarpaulins around the village. (ANALOU DE VERA)
