The threat of House Speaker Pantaleon D. Alvarez to file an impeachment complaint did not send shivers to Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo.
Taking a stand on the side of truth, Robredo’s spokesperson Georgina Hernandez said the Vice President is not bothered by the impeachment complaint to be filed against her.
“For VP Leni, as long as she knows and she is sure that she is on the side of truth, she is not alarmed or afraid of any threats being thrown against her,” Hernandez said in a radio interview yesterday.
“We believe that majority of congressmen though not all in the House of Representatives still have principles, reasonable, and would take side of truth,” she added.
Hernandez said that there is nothing new about the allegations hurled against the Vice President, noting Alvarez subjected her before to threats and intimidation.
“This is not the first time. And VP Leni wants to really understand where this (impeachment case) is coming from and the basis of Speaker Alvarez,” she explained.
Alvarez threatened to file an impeachment complaint against Robredo, citing as basis her videotaped message before the United Nations meeting on extrajudicial killings.
The Vice President criticized the spate of killings and human rights abuses in President Duterte’s bloody war on drugs.
Her spokesperson reiterated Robredo only stated the facts and her message before the UN was based on evidence. (Raymund F. Antonio)
