Manila, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel guard LA Tenorio said yesterday that they have already moved on from their painful defeat to San Miguel Beer in the Finals series of the PBA Philippine Cup.
Focus, according to the veteran guard, is on their campaign in the Commissioner’s Cup.
“Tapos na yun e, ang focus na namin ngayon is yung next conference. Of course, paghahandaan namin yun kasi gusto namin maka-pasok uli sa Finals, magkaroon ng opportunity to win another title,” said Tenorio.
Ginebra lost to SMB 4-1 in their best-of-seven championship showdown two weeks ago.
The setback foiled the Kings’ back-to-back bid after the popular franchise bagged the Governors’ Cup the previous season against Meralco that ended an eight-year title drought.
The team of multi-titled coach Tim Cone won the championship with do-it-all import Justin Brownlee.
Ginebra is bringing the 6-foot-5 Brownlee back as reinforcement this conference, hoping he brings the same energy he provided when the Kings defeated the Meralco Bolts for the title.
“Nag-start na actually sya mag-ensayo together with the other players,” said Tenorio. “Pero yung regular na ensayo namin start na sa Wednesday, balik na lahat mga players.”
“Medyo matagal tagal pa bago kami mag-laro, kaya magandang opportunity na maibalik yung condition, then yung game shape. Wala na din kami time to have a tune up game kasi start na din yung conference,” added Tenorio.
Ginebra will have its first game this conference on April 1 in Davao City against Phoenix Fuel.
The team is already missing third year center Greg Slaughter, who is still recuperating from an ACL injury, and is likely to miss veteran forward Joe Devance due to plantar fasciitis tear.
