ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat – Government troops have launched pursuit operations against New People’s Army rebels who waylaid Monday a team of Marine soldiers in a remote village in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.
The attack led to the death two rebels as well as one from the government side identified as Pvt. Albino Bahian who is assigned with the 2nd Marine Battalion Landing Team.
According to Senior Supt. Raul Supiter, Sultan Kudarat police director, the marines were walking on their way home after conducting a community outreach program in a remote village in Barangay Hinalaan, Kalamansig when attacked by some 20 NPA communist rebels.
Wounded were Staff Sergeant Alexander Falcasantos, Corporal Joseph Accad, Corporal Castle Camu, Corporal Robert Paul de Asis, Corporal Marlon Ampao, Private 1st Class Kenneth Jay Calaycay, Private 1st Class Glenn Genove and Private Jarid Sugaguil.
Supiter condemned the attack, saying the soldiers were conducting peace and development outreach programs to help the local villagers in the area to get basic services from the government. (NONOY E. LACSON)
