Is your vehicle tinted? Prepare for this. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will revive by June the enforcement of the regulation prohibiting colored tints on both private and public utility vehicles, which has not been fully implemented.
MMDA officer in-charge Tim Orbos said discussions for a joint agreement among agency officials, Highway Patrol Group and the Land Transportation Office have started before going after vehicles with dark colored tints on their windshields and passenger windows.
With the enforcement of the anti-tinted vehicle regulation, Orbos said the concerned agencies, under the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT), hope to address several concerns.
These include security for policemen to see what’s going on inside the vehicles, Anti-Distracted Driving Act because how can you see people texting or calling behind the wheels, and to deter colorum operations, cited Orbos.
“For MMDA’s intention, for carpooling. For us to identify vehicles on carpooling service,” said Orbos.
At the same time, Orbos said MMDA is looking into giving incentives, such as exemption from number coding to driver who would do “carpooling” or sharing of car journeys. (Anna Liza Alavaren)
