NAGA CITY – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is calling on Bicol region’s bigwigs to join the country’s search for the next big star as the multi-city sports caravan rolled into the city yesterday with Commissioner Celia Kiram leading the way.
“(Go) find the next Lydia de Vega, (the next) Mona Sulaiman and sports champions who all made our country proud,” Kiram said at the Avenue Plaza Hotel, where mayors from across Bicol gathered for the event.
Kiram assured LGUs to go the extra mile in discovering talent as the PSC, by way of the Philippine Sports Institute, will provide assistance.
But Kiram admits that the success would largely depend on whether a bill would pass into law where sports officials of every city and municipality would be be given fixed terms regardless of the change in administration.
“That’s one way of ensuring that the programs undertaken would not go to waste,” said Kiram, joined here by Arnold Agustin, PSC chief of staff Ronnel Abrenica and training director Marc Velasco.
