’WOOD-INSPIRED – Some readers ask Highspeed two write about showbiz lingo, saying it’s been a long time since this column did. Very well, here are some of them, Hollywood-inspired.
Tom Jones (gutom), Sharon Stones (shabu), Lady Gaga (meaning obvious), Mahalia Jackson (mahal as in expensive and not love), Julie Andrews (huli as in caught and not late), Lotte Lenya (Talo), Madame Curie (kuripot, there’s a Hollywood film based on the life of the two-time Nobel Laureate, for medicine and chemistry).

MILLENIAL LINGO – Was about to dwell more on showbiz lingo when the piece which came out March 17 in Manila Bulletin (Lifestyle, edited by AA Patawaran) caught my attention. It was titled “Millennial lingo—here’s your nifty guide to decoding teenage slang!” written by Loraine Balita-Centeno.
Highspeed “borrows” the most informative and entertaining article.
1. Shookt – too overwhelming or shocking.
2. Savage or savage af – compliment – could be brutal but awesome; could also mean very cool, hardcore, or kick butt.
3. TD – to die for.
4. YAAAAAS! – yes, but with extreme excitement.
5. Don’t me – don’t even try; am not buying.
6. I Kennat! – overwhelmed with too many emotions, “I cannot even.”
7. Ship – support or endorse a romantic relationship.
8. Lit – amazing to describe an event, but could also mean drunk. Said to be overused and on its way out.
9. Work bae – baby, babe, sweetheart one could flirt with in a workplace.
10. Fam – close group friends.
11. On fleek – perfect or on point.
12. Saks lang – “sakto lang” – isn’t good or bad, just so-so.
So there, thanks to Manila Bulletin’s Lifestyle.

SPEEDY NOTES – Good to know that Victor Neri is in the cast of Mike de Leon’s “Citizen Jake,” starring Atom Araullo.
Contributor Mel Caparas says that Victor is the endorser of new dietary supplement Gynuracel Capsule and 4 in 1 coffee mix, which fights high blood, blood sugar, and cholesterol. He’s also cast in the GMA soap “Pinulot Ka Lang sa Lupa”…In Women in the Senate, which came out in Highspeed last week, it’s Magnolia Wellborn ANTONINO and not Antonio.
She took over the Senate seat of her husband Gaudencio ANTONINO, who was killed in a helicopter crash while campaigning…When will Gretchen Barretto act again…movie or drama anthology? With the passing of years, Gretchen gets better and better. How about an episode in “Maalaala Mo Kaya?” She was a standout in that episode years back with Jomari Yllana. Gretch got an award for that.
