An efficient water management program has been proposed to mitigate the effects of summer.
Gonzalo Catan Jr., executive vice-president of Green Charcoal Philippines Inc., said the dry season will again bring the cost of agri products up because of dried out farm lands and, in some areas, dried river beds.
The scenario, according to Catan, could be avoided through an efficient water management program.
Catan proposed mini water reservoir or water storage to catch and store rain water. He cited published reports about some parts of the Cordillera region where small water impounding dams mitigate the effects of drought.
“Cordillera had minimal damage because of availability of water from water impounding projects at strategic portions of river systems and small dams constructed with the help of government agencies,” Catan said.
