At least 20 people were hurt in a four-vehicle smashup on the busy Elliptical Road in Quezon City early yesterday morning.
Heavy traffic greeted motorists plying the Elliptical Road in Barangay Central as a Precious Grace bus unit (UWM161) lying on its side, a Misagh taxi (UZO954), a Honda Civic Sedan (USW427), and another Sedan (WEJ988) blocked the thoroughfare after the 4:30 a.m. mishap.
Initial investigation by the Quezon City Police District Traffic Sector 3 said that the Sedan (WEJ988), driven by one Justin Carreon, was about to make a turn on Elliptical Road from Quezon Avenue when hit by the taxi traversing the circular road.
Pushed by the taxi driven by Edgar Gallarde, Carreon’s car rammed the right rear side of the East Avenue-bound bus.
The impact caused the bus to spin, hitting the Honda Sedan manned by Ferdinand Flores that was about to make a turn to Kalayaan Avenue. The bus, driven by Romel Gazo, rested on its left after it slammed Flores’ car.
The four drivers and their respective passengers were hurt in the multiple collision.
Of the injured passengers, two were from Carreon’s vehicle while 15 others from the bus. Majority of them were brought to the nearby East Avenue Medical Center while others were rushed to Quirino Memorial Medical Center.
Authorities cleared the Elliptical road of obstructions at past 6 a.m.
Police are probing the incident to determine who among the drivers is responsible for the accident.
