Adamson rode on the pitching of Lyca Basa to turn back University of Santo Tomas, 3-1, yesterday to capture its seventh straight UAAP softball crown at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Basa, who was named Finals Most Valuable Player, struck out eight Tigresses while giving up just three hits in a complete-game performance that allowed the Lady Falcons to extend their reign by sweeping the best-of-three series.
Coach Ana Santiago’s team went 11-1 in the eliminations, defeated University of the Philippines, 2-1, in the Final Four before opening the championship series against UST with a 9-2 triumph.
Gelyn Lamata put Adamson ahead when she scored on an error in the second inning. Nichole Padasas doubled the lead in the fourth when driving home Delyrose Covarrubias from second. Covarruibas earlier reached first on error before advancing to second on a groundout.
UST made things interesting later in the inning as CJ Roa tripled to score Mary Luisse Garde from first. But Adamson got an insurance run in the seventh and final inning as Lamata reached home on a single by Covarrubias.
