National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents seized last Wednesday P86.5 million worth of counterfeit shoes during a raid on stores in Pasay City.
Operatives NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD) confiscated fake Nike and Converse shoes when they swooped down on various stores at the One Shopping Center on J. Fernando St. in Pasay City.
The NBI is preparing charges for violation of Republic Act 8293, The Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, against the proprietors and occupants of the raided stores.
The operation stemmed from the complaint of Jaime S. dela Cruz of I-Data, a distributor of Nike and Converse products in the country.
The NBI secured last Tuesday a search warrant from Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 46 to conduct the operation.
The seized fake shoes brought to a warehouse in Valenzuela City. (Jeffrey G. Damicog)
