Blake Griffin is one of the top names this summer as the NBA braces for another wild offseason. A lot of players will be leaving doors open to suitors, most dangling ridiculously lucrative contracts.
On the part of Griffin, he already set the records straight. Unless something comes out of his mouth, all NBA trade talk involving him are purely ‘false’. He mentioned this in a previous interview with Sports Illustrated.
Regardless, Griffin is also aware that he has no power over trade speculations – especially the ones coming from fans. Several teams have been mentioned like the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The teams in mention could make a pitch to Griffin but it would take a lot to consummate. Only a max contract will tempt Griffin which means players will have to be released.
For the Celtics, dumping names like Terry Rozier, Tyler Zeller, and all its free agents would be needed, CBS Sports reported. The Lakers aren’t that different though ridding themselves of the contracts of Timofey Mozgov and Luol Deng could help. As most know, both vets have failed to give the purple and gold a boost.
Aside from Griffin’s take, the performance of the Clippers could factor in. Despite a stellar roster, the Clippers have been struggling yet again. Most believe they could be falling short yet again in the playoffs, something that could get team owner Steve Ballmer thinking.
That may include pondering the status of Griffin, meaning the only chance he leaves the Clips if management allows it to happen.
