AKLAN — The World-famous Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan is aiming to become more accessible for the elderly and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Aklan Provincial Board Member Jay Tejada said reforms must be implemented as Boracay Island is the country’s third largest cruise destination with 29 port calls over the last four years.
“In the past, we received criticisms that Boracay is not friendly to senior citizens or PWDs. The provincial government is now starting to take action,” said Tejada.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) and Aklan provincial government inked an agreement with Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd. (RCCL) in Florida, United States last March 14 to make Boracay its home port in the Philippines.
Tejada said that Governor Florencio Miraflores told him that part of the agreement is making Boracay port at par with international standards. (Jun N. Aguirre)
