Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III has called for an emergency meeting to discuss President Duterte’s proposal to postpone this year’s barangay elections.
The meeting is expected to take place today, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III said in a radio interview.
The emergency meeting is for members of the Senate majority bloc, added Sotto, who joined the President in his recent trip to Myanmar and Thailand.
The senator said that during the trip, the President talked to him about several matters, mostly concerning legislation and issues of national interest such as federalism, the problem on illegal drugs, and the Duterte administration’s economic gains.
And as they also talked about the barangay elections, Sotto said the President had told him that the Senate should study carefully what to do with it.
“Meron siya pananaw pero hindi niya ipinilit na sundin namin. Sinasabi lang niya na pag-aralan namin ang iba’t ibang idea,” said Sotto. (Elena Aben)
