Police arrested yesterday a 49-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his wife to death inside their house in Barangay Panghulo, Malabon City.
Police said they apprehended Edwin Chavenia, 49, after a witness pointed to him as the real killer of his wife Annalie Aiza, 45.
Prior to his arrest, the suspect reported to the police that he found his wife already dead filled with stab wounds when he woke up at 9 a.m. Sunday, claiming that a robber could have killed her while he was asleep.
Malabon Police chief Senior Supt John Chua said Edwin told them he was drunk when he went home around 1 a.m. on the same day.
But yesterday, Frank Otella, a witness, told probers that he saw the suspect wearing a T-shirt filled with blood stains around 7 a.m., the same time he saw Annalie alive.
After a few minutes, Otella said he heard Edwin shouting: Tulungan niyo kami, pinatay ang asawa ko. Pinasok kami kagabi.”
Based on Chua’s statement, policemen arrested Edwin about 9 a.m. yesterday in his house in Barangay Panghul. He is now detained at Malabon Police headquarters. (Jel Santos)
