The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) handed yesterday cash rewards amounting R4.9 million to four tipsters who helped the agency track down and arrest illegal drug personalities.
The four informants worked under Operation: Private Eye (OPE), a system that entices ordinary citizens to report any suspected illegal drug activities to the agency in their communities in exchange for rewards and incentives commensurate to the magnitude of the illicit deal.
PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña commended the civilian informants codenamed “Jacpat,” “Clanbuster,” “Barbarian” and “Alaping” for providing information that led to the arrest of several local and foreign drug
personalities, the confiscation of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, and the dismantling of a clandestine shabu laboratory.
“The four informants wore ski masks during the ceremony in order to protect their anonymity. All information we receive through the OPE are being handled with utmost confidentiality,” Lapeña said.
Among the informants, “Jacpat” received the biggest reward of more than P2,000,000.
His information resulted in the confiscation of 35.918 kilograms of shabu and the arrest of two Chinese nationals at a gasoline station in Barangay Lawang Bato, Valenzuela City, on January 12, 2016.
He also received P637,172.31 for the information he supplied that led to the confiscation of 19.8983 kilograms of shabu in an entrapment operation in Fairview, Quezon City on September 30, 2015. (Chito A. Chavez)
