SEARCH – Now that Angel Locsin is out of the “Darna” project for medical reasons, the search for the new Pinay superwoman is on.
Pia Wurtzbach was suggested, perfect. But then the former Miss Universe doesn’t see herself donning the “Darna” costume as it seemed that Star Cinema and ABS-CBN have other projects for her.
More suggestions: KC Concepcion, Jessy Mendiola, and Maja Salvador.
All three have the figure and the agility to soar in the sky as “Darna.” But then, the late Uncle Mars (Ravelo) who created “Darna” had said time and again that the Pinay superwoman should also be majestic, one with regal bearing.
Which made the original “Darna,” Rosa del Rosario, perfect for the part. Rose, a movie queen, made two versions of “Darna” in the early ‘50s.
In this columnist’s opinion, Maja and KC have an edge over the many among their contract stars.
Why not a worldwide search? Worldwide as it’ll include the many Filipino communities abroad.
It will be wonderful if they can find an unknown and fresh “Darna.”
Look, the likes of Charito Solis, Amalia Fuentes, Susan Roces, and Edna Luna, Lorna Tolentino, Gina Alajar, Amy Austria were, more or less, products of star searches.

‘DYESEBEL’ – Another Uncle Mars creation is the mermaid “Dyesebel,” originally played by Edna Luna.
Star Cinema and ABS-CBN own the rights to Uncle Mars’ novels and surely, sooner or later, they will do “Dyesebel” either as movie or teleserye. Liza Soberano is the perfect “Dyesebel,” young, fresh, and innocent-looking.
Liza is being touted as the next “Darna,” but she’s too young and delicate for the part.
Should Liza play “Dyesebel,” the apt leading man is real-life sweetheart Enrique Gil. But he should firm up those muscles as he’ll be required to wear trunks or even bikini. Remember the locale is mostly the sea.
The contravida roles may be played by Erich Gonzales and Ejay Falcon, who have the bodies to flaunt.
