BAGUIO CITY – Six boxers are set to compete in two important events that are crucial in their preparation for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games this August in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
According to coach Pat Gaspi, the boxers are ready to see action in the King’s Cup slated April 3 to 9 in Thailand following a performance test conducted recently by the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP).
“So far OK naman, galing kami sa Trinidad,” Gaspi said yesterday after conducting morning practice session at the Teachers Camp here. “Towards SEA Games na ito.”
The six boxers are light flyweight Carlo Paalam, flyweight Ian Bautista, bantamweight Mario Fernandez, lightweight James Palicte, welterweight Joel Bacho and middleweight Eumir Marcial.
Other boxers left behind at the Teacher’s Camp, like Olympians Rogen Ladon and Charley Suarez, will continue preparing for the Asian Championships set April 30 to May 7 in Uzbekistan.
The said event is a qualifying meet for the World Championships in August in Hamburg, Germany.
