A Social Weather Stations survey has revealed that the government is the top source of assistance for Filipino households.
The survey, conducted from December 3 to 6 last year, said that 46 percent or about 4.8 million Filipino households are being assisted by the government.
Forty-one percent or 4.3 million said they are getting assistance from relatives while 16 percent or about 1.7 million get help from friends.
Private persons are sources of assistance to about eight percent or about 856,000 households while private companies benefit five percent or about 543,000.
Non-government organizations and religious organizations were the least to provide assistance to households at only two percent (about 250,000) and one percent (about 146,000), respectively, the survey bared.
The SWS said this was only the fifth time that the government topped the common sources of assistance by households. (Vanne Elaine P. Terrazola)
