10 a.m. – UP vs Adamson (men’s)
2 p.m. – Adamson vs UE (women’s)
4 p.m. – FEU vs UP (women’s)
Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines fight for survival today when they clash in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The winner between the 4 p.m. confrontation of the Lady Tams and the Lady Maroons would earn at least a playoff for a Final Four berth in this penultimate second elimination round playdate.
The losing squad, however, will be eliminated from the race.
Currently tied at fourth to sixth places with identical 7-6 win-loss marks, FEU and UP will be leaning on their respective recent victories to keep their respective title bids alive.
The Lady Tams are coming off back-to-back straight-set wins over the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors and the National University Lady Bulldogs, while the Lady Maroons are fresh from a morale-boosting four-set victory over the Lady Bulldogs.
But FEU is mostly relying on its 25-17, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19 first-round victory over UP last March 1 in bolstering it chances against its rival.
The Lady Tams’ floor defense is expected to play a vital role in this matchup after running in second in the Receiving Department, but the Lady Maroons’ unpredictable net attacks will also pose as threats.
Libero Ria Duremdes is set to lead FEU’s floor defense, with the trio of Bernadeth Pons, Remy Palma, and Toni Rose Basas taking charge of their offense.
UP, meanwhile, has power spikers Isa Molde, Nicole Tiamzon, and Diana Carlos to lead the core of the team’s attacks.
In the other match, eliminated teams Adamson and UE collide at 2 p.m. with hopes on ending their respective season campaigns on a bright note.
The Lady Falcons are particularly hungrier for the victory as they had stumbled in all their 13 matches, while the Lady Warriors (1-2) eye a repeat performance of their 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18 first-round triumph against Adamson.
