Mayor Sara Duterte has defended her choice of Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum as her choice for city director for the Davao City Police Office.
“He is my choice,” she said, adding that there were around three names considered for the post.
In an interview at the DCPO, Mayor Duterte however said that those who want to protest her choice may freely do so, adding that the city implements a strict maximum tolerance policy for protests.
She said that Tagum’s experience as chief of police for North Cotabato during the Kidapawan incident last year was an added learning for the police official.
Tagum, meanwhile, thanked Mayor Duterte for her support.
He said he would guarantee freedom of expression for protesters in the city.
“We will even protect them, marshall vehicle traffic for them, give them refreshments,” Tagum said. “After all, they are still our constituents.”
Tagum took over the reins of the DCPO at Tuesday’s turnover ceremonies. (Yas D. Ocampo)
