Chris Martin, front man of the British rock band Coldplay, said on Tuesday night that he was amazed at the spirits of the Filipinos as he vowed to come back soon.
“Most of all, we would to say thank you to each and every one of you for giving us such an amazing experience. Based on tonight, probably we will come back,” said Martin as fans cheered at the end of their one-night only concert held at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
It was the first time that the popular band played in the Philippines. On Nov. 24, 2016, tickets to their much-awaited concert went on sale online and was sold-out the next day.
More than 35,000 jammed to the music of the popular British rock band who gave worldwide hits such as “The Scientist,” “Clocks,” “Speed of Sound,” Fix You,” “Viva la Vida,” “A Sky Full of Stars,” “Hymn for the Weekend,” etc.
Other members of Coldplay are guitarist Jon Buckland, drummer Will Champion, and bassist Guy Berryman.
Martin and his band rode a passenger jeep when they arrived at the venue hours before the show. Moments later, Martin rode a bike and toured the MOA grounds as fans flashed their cellphone cameras and tried to run after him.
Before the band went to the concert venue, Martin visited Ken Santiago, a Coldplay fan who has cancer.
Ken’s brother wrote a letter on Facebook saying his sick brother couldn’t make it to the concert of the Grammy-award winning band.
Martin read the letter and visited Ken at the hospital.
“I am so happy to be in Manila for the first time. I think from the fans that we’ve met on the streets, the energy feels like it’s going to be amazing. We don’t have a jet lag anymore. We’re just ready to roll,” said Martin during an exclusive interview on “TV Patrol” news program on ABS-CBN upon their arrival.
“Today I just met some kids who have been cueing up for some 10 hours to buy tickets. That was just astonishing and we are grateful for that. Sometimes if you’re feeling a little tired or a little depressed, you just remember like where you came from. And the more exotic the location, the farther away where you came from, the more it seems trippy and amazing,” said Martin.
In February, Coldplay debuted their new single “Something Just Like This” from their upcoming extended play album “Kaleidescope” which will be released in June.
Other songs from the EP are “Hypnotized,” “All I Can Think About Is You,” “Miracles 2,” and “A L I E N S.”
