BALIWAG, Bulacan – The inaugural season of Alab Pilipinas came to a heartbreaking end after losing to the Singapore Slingers, 82-64, in Game 2 of their best-of-three semifinal series in the ASEAN Basketball League at the Baliwag Star Arena here.
Ironically, it was a Filipino who showed Alab the door as former PBA guard Josh Urbiztondo made big baskets in the second half that scuttled the home team’s comeback bid while propelling the Slingers to a second straight finals appearance after sweeping the series.
Urbiztondo scored 20 points, half of which as Alab tried to erase a 21-point deficit led by Kiefer Ravena.
The 34-year-old knocked down a three-point shot followed by a layup after Alab’s Sampson Carter scored off a Ravena assist that cut Singapore’s lead to 52-45 with 3:22 left in the third.
