A 20-year-old drunken toughie was arrested after he ran amuck and shot dead a house helper Sunday night in Pasay City.
Senior Supt. Lawrence Coop, chief of Pasay police, identified the suspect as Angelo Espinosa, a construction worker, of Sto. Niño St., Brgy. 145.
The victim identified only as Aling Maria, around 50 to 55 years old, stay-in house helper at Ipil-Ipil St., Brgy. 145, succumbed to a gunshot wound in the chest while undergoing treatment at Pasay City General Hospital.
Initial investigation showed that around 9:40 p.m., Espinosa was on his way home from a drinking session when a group of toughies mauled him. A certain Benjamin Navarra pacified the fight and told the street toughies to go home.
Espinosa went home and took a gun. He saw on his way out Navarra he thought was involved in the group who mauled him.
He chased Navarra until they reached the latter’s house.
“Nagwala itong si Espinosa at nagbanta na papatayin ‘yong buong pamilya ni Navarra,” Coop said.
Police said Espinosa pointed a gun at Navarra’s 63-year-old mother, Erlinda. However, he couldn’t pull the trigger so he just went home.
Minutes later, Espinosa again went to Navarra’s house and fired a shot, hitting Aling Maria, the family’s long-time house helper.
Espinosa was arrested by members of Baclaran-Pasay Police Community Precinct inside his house in a follow up operation. (Martin A. Sadongdong)
