The Manila Police District (MPD) has warned Manileños going on vacation against posting their Holy Week itinerary and photos on social networking sites.
MPD director Chief Supt. Joel Coronel said posting travel photos might attract burglars to rob unattended houses.
“Just a reminder, please avoid posting on Facebook, on social media, where and when you are going this Holy Week break,” Coronel said.
“As much as possible, don’t let others know – especially those who are not supposed to know – your travel plans and schedule, kasi tumataas po ang insidente ng ‘akyat bahay’ ‘pag may mga bahay na naiiwang walang tao.”
Coronel also advised those who cannot avoid leaving their houses unattended to ask a trusted neighbor or friend to watch over it while they are away, keep the doors locked and, if possible, use burglar alarms.
“Don’t leave precious valuables such as cash and jewelry,” the MPD chief further said.
He assured, however, that security patrols will be doing rounds in the neighborhood throughout the Holy Week.
