The Senate Public Order and Dangerous Drugs Committee will come down hard on retired SPO3 Arturo Lascanas for allegedly lying before the Senate body.
Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson said his committee report that he is drafting would include a recommendation that Lascanas should be charged with perjury.
Lacson said he would also recommend an amendment to the perjury law, particularly the increase in the penalty for lying under oath before a congressional inquiry.
“My recommendation is a penalty that is commensurate or equal to the punishment of the offense that the perjurer has accused another. Kung murder or illegal drugs ang pinagsinungalingan niya sa pag aakusa, dapat life imprisonment din parusa sa kanya,’’ he said.
Lacson was piqued by the 180-degree turn of Lascanas in his testimony before his committee.
Last November, Lascanas strongly denied before Lacson’s committee the existence of the Davao Death Squad formed during the term of then Davao City Mayor now President Duterte.
Last February, Lascanas again appeared before the Lacson committee, this time to admit he was a top honcho of Duterte’s DDS that killed criminals and even personal enemies of Duterte. (Mario B. Casayuran)
