A captured Kuwaiti explosives expert of the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was deported yesterday to his home country where he has been facing charges for planning bomb attacks against Kuwait.
Citing information from the Bureau of Immigration (BI), Department of Justice (DoJ) Undersecretary Erickson Balmes said that Kuwaiti national Hussein Aldhafiri was taken to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 and deported to Kuwait at noon.
Agents of BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) picked up Hussein from the detention facility of the Philippine Army’s Intelligence Service Group (ISG) at its headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Personnel from the BI Warden Facility (BIWF) and the Manila International Airport Authority’s Airport Police Department (MIAA-APD) also escorted the fugitive to the airport.
“FSU agents together with BIWF personnel and MIAA APD are en route to ISG PA Fort Bonifacio to secure for transport to NAIA T1 and for eventual deportation to Kuwait at 12NN today Hussein AZO Aldhafiri,” read the brief report from BI FSU officer-in-charge Bobby Rauepo.
Responding to the request of the Kuwaiti Embassy for Hussein’s deportation, the Kuwaiti national and his female Syrian companion, Rahaf Zina, were arrested last March 25 by the FSU on 28th St. in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
After being detained at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for around two weeks, the two were turned over to the custody of the ISG last April 8.
The Kuwaiti embassy informed the Philippine government that Hussein is set to “stand trial in the State of Kuwait for his involvement in the terrorist group Daesh (ISIS).”
The embassy noted that he already has “a standing warrant of arrest issued against him by the Prosecutor General in relation to Crimes Against Security Case Number 7/2017.”
Also, the Philippine government also that Rahaf is the widow of slain Abu Jandal Al-Kuwaiti, the number two military commander of ISIS operating in Syria.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente has already issued a summary deportation order against Rahaf who will be deported to Syria. (JEFFREY G. DAMICOG)
