STA. ROSA CITY, Laguna – Car “rent-tangay” or rent-and-run scam suspect Eleanor “Leah” Constantino Rosales was shot dead in front of her residence in Barangay Malusak here Wednesday.
Closed circuit television camera footages obtained by the police showed the 58-year-old Rosales had just arrived from a hearing and was asking her maid to open the gate when two men onboard a motorcycle arrived.
The back rider alighted and drew a gun and fired at the victim. Rosales managed to run but the gunman continued firing at her, causing her death.
Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered four empty shells from a caliber 9mm pistol at the gate area.
The gunman based on the CCTV footage was wearing blue jacket, bull cap, face mask, and short pants, aged 35, medium built, and at least 5’6” in height. His driver was wearing black, white, and maroon jacket, helmet, has a large built, and at least 5”7 in height.
Rosales was tagged by the police and the Highway Patrol Group as one of the suspects involved in the rent tangay scam.
She was the secretary of alleged rent tangay scam mastermind Rafaela “Ella” Anunciacion of San Pedro City, Laguna.
Earlier investigations disclosed that the modus of the rent-tangay involves renting vehicles from their owners.
Owners of the vehicles are paid rental income by the suspects only to find out that their cars were either mortgaged or sold to different persons without their knowledge and consent.
Police are thoroughly reviewing the CCTV footages to uncover more details about the incident. Authorities have yet to disclose a motive but suspect that it could be related to the rent tangay scam. (PNA and Danny J. Estacio)
