Metro Manila workers and students can look forward to a respite next Friday due to the activities related to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit next week.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea issued Memorandum Circular No. 18 suspending work in both government and private offices in Metro Manila on April 28, Friday.
Also suspended are classes in all public and private schools in Metro Manila on the same day in view of the activities directly connected with the country’s hosting of the regional summit.
Under MC 18, Malacañang also canceled government work in the cities of Pasay, Makati and Manila on April 27, Thursday. The Palace however left to the discretion of school administrators whether to suspend classes on the same day.
Other dates on work suspension near the ASEAN summit venue have also declared by the Palace.
Government work in the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) complex in Pasay City will also be suspended from April 24 to 30.
There will also be no work for government workers in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) complex in Pasay City from April 28 to 30.
Exempted from the work suspension are government agencies involved in delivery of basic services, such as security, health and emergency preparedness. Also expected to report for work are those directly involved in the conducted of the ASEAN summit and related meetings.
“The suspension of work in the private sector and in places other than those indicated above is left to the discretion of their respective local government units and/or employers based on their assessment of the scheduled activities from 24-30 April 2017, and the security and traffic management plan which shall be implemented on the said dates,” the circular read.
