A retired policeman wanted for murder was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents after almost 25 years of hiding.
The NBI identified the fugitive as retired Police Officer 3 Rodolfo Gumayao, 64, who had been at large since Bacolod City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 54 issued a warrant for his arrest on July 1, 1992 for a murder case.
Agents of the NBI International Operations Division (IOD) and Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) arrested Gumayao last Wednesday at the food court of the Terra Plaza in Bacolod City following intelligence information about him.
The NBI said that Gumayao and his group have been engaged in illegal activities such as gun running of high-powered firearms and drug distribution in Region VI.
The bureau added that Gumayao also hanged out with fellow former members of the Philippine Constabulary in Iloilo, Bacolod, and Guimaras.
Following his arrest, Gumayao was brought to the NBI Bacolod District Office for booking.
He was later transported to the NBI main office in Manila where he has been detained. (JEFFREY G. DAMICOG)
