Ray Parks Jr. of Alab Pilipinas was named yesterday as the Local Most Valuable Player of the ASEAN Basketball League after an impressive debut in the Southeast Asian-based league.
Parks received the award given to the league’s top local player before Game 4 of the best-of-five finals series between the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions and the Singapore Slingers at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
The former National University star and one-time member of the NBA D-League’s Texas Legends averaged 19.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists during the season, leading Alab Pilipinas to the playoffs in its maiden ABL campaign.
Parks is the second Filipino player to win the Local MVP plum, joining former San Miguel Beermen stars Leo Avenido (2012) and Asi Taulava (2013). (JT)
