CAMP PRESIDENT ELPIDIO R. QUIRINO, Bulag, Bantay, Ilocos Sur – Police arrested three men caught in the act of robbing a pawnshop before dawn Sunday in Barangay Bannuar, San Juan, Ilocos Sur.
Supt. William Nerona, spokesperson of the Ilocos Sur police provincial office, identified the suspects as Fred Toldican, 31; Nickson Binaliw, 27; and Ronald Allan Rivera Jr., 29, a miner; all residents of Mines View, Baguio City.
Police were patrolling the area at around 2:30 a.m. when they saw 12 men destroying the back wall of the Tambunting Pawnshop.
Police accosted the suspects and managed to arrest three of them while the others escaped. Recovered from the suspects were pliers, drilling tool, bolt cutter, hydraulic jack, and saw.
Nerona said the suspects are now in police custody while appropriate charges are being prepared against them.
Meanwhile, a couple was robbed of around P310,000 in cash in their house in Camella Homes, Barangay Tablac, Candon City Sunday.
Police identified the victims as Antonio Juldo Ping-ay, a former Overseas Filipino Worker, and his live-in partner Delia Bala-oing Dapilan, 64, a retired nurse from California.
They lost $6,000 or equivalent to more or less P300,000 and P10,000. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
