The tropical cyclone off the Pacific Ocean has gained strength as it moves slowly toward the country’s area of responsibility.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the tropical cyclone will be inside the country’s area of responsibility Tuesday evening should it maintain its current west-northwest track at 11 kilometers per hour (kph).
It will be given a local name of “Dante” once inside the country’s waters.
Beore Tuesday noon, the weather disturbance was estimated at 1,300 kilometers east of Visayas with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 65 kph.
However, PAGASA said the tropical cyclone will begin to move north towards Japan by Wednesday thus the warm and humid easterlies will remain the predominant weather system across the eastern part of the country.
It will have no direct effect to the country’s weather condition, it added. (Ellalyn de Vera-Ruiz)
