A police officer died after figuring in a four-vehicle collision along East Service Road in Parañaque City Tuesday night.
Senior Inspector Allan Abaquita, chief of Parañaque police investigation unit, identified the victim as PO1 JC Nel Eugenio, 24, a member of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and resident of No. 441, MLQ St., Brgy. Lower Bicutan, Taguig City.
Initial investigation showed that Eugenio was driving his motorcycle (OF-3960) around 10:10 p.m., along East Service Road in Barangay San Martin De Porres when he was bumped from behind by a dump truck (QBQ-792) driven by Virgilio Obregon, 58, of No. 219 Sitio 6, Catmon, Malabon.
Due to the impact, Eugenio lost control of the motorcycle, went under the dump truck and was dragged for about a meter.
Eugenio died on the spot from a bashed head and severe body injuries, Abaquita said.
The dump truck then smashed into an Isuzu van (ABK-7687), which in the process, slammed into a Toyota Avanza Wagon (ABN-6616).
Obregon surrendered to authorities and claimed that his truck lost its brakes. He added that he just intended to hit a tree to stop the truck but it was too late.
Abaquita said Eugenio was about to go on duty when the accident happened. All four vehicles came from Bicutan and were headed to FTI.
Investigators found Eugenio’s police uniform, service firearm, and several identification cards inside the compartment of his motorcycle.
Abaquita said Obregon was detained at the Parañaque City Police detention cell and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide with damage to property.
Meanwhile, Eugenio’s body was taken to Royalty Funeral Homes. (MARTIN A. SADONGDONG)
