Over P643 million in income from Small Town Lottery was received by local government units in 2016, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office said, as it expects more revenues from additional STL operators approved recently.
According to PCSO General Manager Alexander Balutan, cities and municipalities, congressional districts, provincial governments, and police units all over the country received P643.88 million from STL operations.
Balutan said the amount came from the original 18 Authorized Agents Corporation operating STL. Last February, Balutan said, 38 more AACs were approved by the PCSO that are expected to generate more income for the charity agency.
Balutan made the announcement during a consultative meeting last week that was attended by local government executives and police officials from Metro Manila, particularly the southern district and Cavite, in Pasay City.
“Cavite, which has 17 municipalities and four cities, had a share of P26.509 million with 9,361 indigent patients in 2016 while NCR-Southern District received P42.934 million with 14,852 indigent patients benefitting from the PCSO’s Individual Medical Assistance Program,” a statement from the PCSO said.
“Following President Duterte’s order, we are planning to add 35 more to the 56 AACs within this year so more LGUs will surely receive more funds for their projects, particularly health programs,” Balutan said. (Jenny F. Manongdo)
