The case of convicted drug trafficker Mary Jane Veloso will likely be high on the agenda of resident Duterte’s meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo today, according to a Palace official.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella, however, did not say if the President will ask for clemency for Veloso when he meets his Indonesian counterpart in Malacañang.
Widodo is scheduled to arrive in Manila this morning for a State visit ahead of the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit and related meetings this week.
He is the second Southeast Asian leader to pay a State visit in the country since Duterte assumed office, next to Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei.
“The President can also be expected to discuss the situation of Filipino workers in these countries, including the case of Mary Jane Veloso,” Abella said.
Apart from the plight of Filipino workers, Abella said the President will separately discuss with Bolkiah and Widodo “issues of common concern, such as security of our sea lanes, cross-border traffic and patrol, and economic cooperation.” (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
