A businessman-agriculturist is batting for the creation of mini-dams to avert a possible food crisis during the dry season.
Gonzalo Catan Jr., executive vice president of Green Charcoal Philippines Inc., said the mini-dams can back up the existing dams.
Catan noted the rising cost of agricultural products due to less food production as a result of the dry spell.
“Newspapers will again be replete with photos of dried out farmlands and some areas, dried river beds due to lack of rainfall, and drier than normal conditions in some parts of the country,” he said.
Catan said mini-dams could form part of the efficient irrigation management program.
