Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol yesterday offered a local pineapple variety to the Indonesian market and personally told President Joko Widodo he would send some samples over to him.
Piñol made the offer at the tarmac of the Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao City where Jokowi was scheduled to fly to Indonesia.
Piñol said the Philippine government would look for ways to send a favorite variety of Jokowi’s over.
The short exchange, which was broadcasted over government network RTVM, was among the last in a fruitful albeit short interaction between representatives of both countries.
Jokowi had just joined President Duterte at the launching of the Super Shuttle Roro 12 at the port in Davao City earlier in the day.
Duterte said the event was a means for both countries to honor a unique bond between nations both divided and connected by vast seas.
“As early as the pre-colonial times, these vast seas provide for the route of barter trading and facilitate for the flow of people from and to our respective territories. During the past decades, we are further bound to strengthen our spirit of the brotherhood with the forging of sister city arrangements that promote meaningful bonds of friendship among our peoples,” Duterte said.
