The Philippine taekwondo athletes made the country proud again by collecting eight medals – five silvers and three bronzes – in the recent Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships in Atyrau, Kazakhstan.
Competing in free sparring, the Meralco/MVP Sports Foundation jins brought home four of the silver medals and one bronze, while the PLDT Home Ultera/MVP Sports Foundation team bagged one silver and two bronzes in the poomsae (forms) event.
Carlo Dominic Dionisio, Rryshel Jasmine Ramirez, Beatrice Kassandra Gaerlan and Florence Mae Chavez produced silver while Abigail Faye Valdez earned a bronze in the free sparring competition.
In poomsae, Justin Kobe Macario won the freestyle individual men’s silver while Patrick King Perez, Justin Carlo Mendoza and Jessie Daniel Ignacio took the men’s freestyle and Aidaine Krishia Laxa, Chelsea Xen Tacay, Jessie Daniel Ignacio, Justin Kobe Macario and Shane Jeremy Benavente got the freestyle team bronzes.
The Filipino lady jins were quite impressive as they finished fourth overall in a tough field of 25 countries including, Korea, Iran and China.
The junior team was supported by Smart Communications Inc., Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.
