Kapamilya leading lady Kim Chiu has finally found the sport she loves – Duathlon.
In the past months, Kim has been training in both running and cycling, not just because she plays a triathlete in her new ABS-CBN teleserye, but to get fit due to her erratic showbiz schedule.
“I still get to train in the gym if I don’t get the chance to run outside.
“I’m very committed. I do cross-training, spinning class and treadmill running just to simulate my outdoor runs.
“My trainer puts me in strength training since duathlon has multiple movements.
“It helps me to develop my core training and it improves my cardio and muscular strength for endurance,” Kim says.
Last March 5, Kim ran her first dualthon race. She finished a total of eight kilometers of running and 25 kilometers of biking.
This, she proudly shares in her Instagram account:
“Never in my life have I imagined that ill be joining a race like this… i never thought that one morning ill wake up and prepare myself to go to a race.. but life gives you surprises! as a first timer during the race there will always be obstacles that sometimes you want to give up akala mo dimo na kaya but you just have to believe in yourself, trust yourself and everything else will follow.. one my bladder bag (redbackpack) was not working so i wasn’t able to hydrate during my bike leg and had side cramps and asthma attack in the last 2km run, i was so scared and nervous i didn’t stop praying (glory be hundred times) coz i didn’t want to quit. sabi ko nalang its all in the mind! its all in the mind! one good thing also is that a lot of people are cheering “GO KIM!” racers, spectators, watchers mga thousand times sinasabi go kim!!!’ pag dumadaan sila or ako. hahaha thank you sa inyo!!! nakaka boost ng energy! my #FirstDuathlon experience was all worth it!!!! #pilipinasduathlon2017”
As disciplined as she is now, Kim gathered lots of strength from constant training and just recently, completed her first 21k in the NatGeo 2017 Run.
“I’m not doing this just because of my character in a teleserye. I love to run. I love to collect medals from my runs.
“Because of my training, I developed a disciplined body. I try to sleep early, eat the right food and think positive.
“I’ve yet to join a full marathon. Next year, my aim is to finish a full 42K run!” she ends with a smile.
Kim is currently seen in the teleserye Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin where she plays a triathlete opposite Gerald Anderson and Jake Cuenca. (Ruel Mendoza)
