Unable to get a congressman to endorse its impeachment bid against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption has decided to cancel today’s scheduled filing of the complaint which is now the third ouster move against an impeachable officer to be initially met with rejection.
Requesting anonymity, a key VACC official admitted that nearly 10 congressmen have been approached to sign the 65-page complaint seeking to impeach Morales but there remained no takers as of press time yesterday.
He lamented the seeming lack of interest of lawmakers in pursuing the complaint even as he blamed reports of Morales’ relationship with the Duterte family as a strong reason for VACC’s inability to get their endorsement.
“They may have wanted an assurance that President Duterte supports the complaint as part of his reform program,” the VACC official stressed.
The Ombudsman is the sister of lawyer Lucas Carpio and Court of Appeals Associate Justice Agnes Reyes Carpio, parents of Mans Carpio, who is Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s husband.
The VACC official admitted that they are pinning their hope in House Speaker Pantaleon D. Alvarez’s support to the complaint.
