President Duterte has named Deputy Gov. Nestor Espenilla Jr. as the new Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas governor.
Espenilla’s appointment was revealed by Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol in his Facebook account. According to Piñol, Duterte made the announcement during the 15th Cabinet Meeting in Malacañang last night.
Espenilla served as deputy governor of the BSP for six years. He will take over from Gov. Armando Tetangco when his six-year term ends this July.
The appointment was also confirmed by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III in his Twitter account last night.
According to Dominguez, Duterte made a wise choice after a “thorough evaluation of the future needs of the country and of all the candidates.”
He expressed gratitude to outgoing Tetangco for training his potential successors. “We were fortunate that Gov. Tetangco carefully trained his potential successors,” Dominguez said. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
