Balladeer Richard Reynoso has criticized the performance of young actor Daniel Padilla who serenaded the candidates of the Bb Pilipinas 2017 beauty contest during grand coronation held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City last April 30.
“Halehalehoys!!! Iba na talaga ang panahon ngayon. Dati, pag kumakanta ka sa ‘beauty pageant’, hinaharana mo ’yung mga kandidata and make them feel na sila ang pinakamagandang babae at that very moment. Ngayon, mukhang backdrop na lang ang mga kandidata at di na din yata required na nasa tono ka sa pagkanta. Nuba?!” said Reynoso in a comment posted on Facebook.
During the finals, Padilla also wore dark glasses as he sang “The Way You Look Tonight” at the prestigious local beauty contest.
Popular film critic Mario Hernando commented on Reynoso’s FB post and said that Padilla “should remove those colored glasses and move with finesse.”
Hernando added: “He is a big star in his own right and should stop emulating his action star uncle.
Reynoso, known for his hit OPM songs “Hindi Ko Kaya” and “Paminsan-Minsan,” agreed with Hernando.
“I totally agree, Mario. Even his uncle, who is a good friend would have much respect for the event. I felt so disrespected and dismayed because I used to do that during Direk Fritz’s time and had to study and prepare for such an event kundi maliligo ka ng mura mula kay Direk,” Reynoso said.
He added: “Meron pa naman si-gurong ibang talent sila dun na pwedeng kunin na kahit paano mailulusot ’yung production number. Kaya naman siguro ’yun kung pinaghandaan lang.”
Reynoso, 47, said that he has judged and even performed in beauty pageants many times in the past.
“I’ve done a lot of those in my career. Had my time under Direk Fritz Ynfante. There are younger and still capable people who can do that with justification. Last night was a huge disappointment talaga,” he said.
“A Japanese friend once told me, kaya daw sila nagstrive for excellence kasi kung di masarap o magaling ang product nila, di daw tatangkilikin ng kapwa nila Japanese. Di daw tulad nating mga Pinoy, kahit di masarap kinakagat. Kaya ang trabaho, di na kailangang dekalidad. Mukhang tama siya;”
“Baligtad na ang mundo. Yan ang hirap kasi marami din talagang talented kumanta dito sa atin kaya lang di nabibigyan ng break at iniiba na lang ng industry ang standards o sukatan ng kasikatan. Nakakalungkot;”
“And soooooo sad too, my friend. Gone are the days when we used to work so hard to give a memorable performance.
Ngayon, bara-bara na lang,” Reynoso added.
