Games Tomorrow
(The Arena, San Juan City)
1 p.m. – Sta. Elena vs IEM (men’s)
Former champion Cignal bucked a slow start as it bested Café Lupe, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-23, yesterday to forge a three-way tie on top in the Premier Volleyball League men’s tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The HD Spikers dominated the Sunrisers with their unstoppable attacks after four players scored in double figures.
It was a second straight win in as many outings for Cignal after beating Instituto Estetico Manila in straight sets last week, joining Sta. Elena and Army atop the leaderboard.
Café Lupe, for its part, absorbed its third straight defeat in as many matches to remain at the cellar.
Lorenzo Capate waxed hot in the attack line with 14 kills to finish with 16 points for Cignal, while former Ateneo mainstay Ysay Marasigan chipped in 12 points, all coming from attacks.
Peter Torres and Bonjomar Castel also provided reinforcements with 11 points apiece, with Castel swatting away three blocks.
Vince Mangulabnan also silently contributed for the HD Spikers with 44 excellent sets.
Cignal struggled with its plays by committing 37 errors, but managed to outplay Café Lupe particularly at the attack lane, 60-34.
