CIVIL AND UN – In showbiz, there are civil and uncivil break-ups, be they husband and wife or sweethearts, lovers.
The break-up of Bela Padilla and Neil Arce comes to mind. Very civil. Of course, there were wounded feelings but the lovers remain in good terms. No bad words, only good wishes.
Look. It came at a time when the film they co-produced with Viva and Joyce Bernal, the delightful romcom “Luck at First Sight,” was being shot. Bela and Neil co-wrote the story.
Neil is being linked to Angel Locsin, while Bela isn’t ready to entertain suitors. Not yet. But Bela had only good wishes for Neil and Angel, adding she was already out of his life.
Bela does not discount the possibility of collaborating on another film, with her writing the script. Her leading man in “Luck at First Sight” is Jericho Rosales, who also showed utmost professionalism by refusing to take a break in the shoot even if his father died. Directed by Dan Villegas, who is also behind an earlier Bela-Neil-Viva joint project, “Camp Sawi.”

IN BAD TASTE – A very uncivil separation is that of lovers Erich Gonzales and Daniel Matsunaga. Money appeared to be the cause of it all. She complained in print and social media she was tired of spending and spending, making it appear he was an opportunist.
Washing dirty linen in public, especially where money is concerned, is in bad taste indeed.
To be fair, Daniel kept quiet…as a gentleman should. But his sister Vanessa denied Erich’s accusation.

WHERE LOVE HAS GONE – Other uncivil break-ups.
Cesar Montano and Sunshine Cruz, which even reached the court.
The tearful (as in “hugot” lamentations) split of Angelica Panganiban with Derek Ramsay and John Lloyd Cruz. But eventually, they managed to patch up.
The break-up of the marriage of Kris Aquino and James Yap, which also reached the court. And before that, the end of Kris’ affair with Phillip Salvador and Joey Marquez.
Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado. But after the storm, the lull—they are back in each other’s arms.

BEST OF – As Highspeed has often said, all failed marriages ought to end like that of Ogie Alcasid and Michelle Van Eimeren’s. They became the best of friends…along with their new partners, Regine Velasquez and an Australian guy.
Michelle even prepared the floral arrangement at the wedding of Ogie and Regine. Regine, on the other hand, is supportive step-mother to Leila, Ogie and Michelle’s daughter, who’s now based in Manila.
Leila plans to join showbiz and study here.
Also best of friends are Annabelle Rama and Pilita Corrales, mother of Monching, son of Eddie Gutierrez. Of course that’s history.
Hopefully, estranged couple Jackie Lou Blanco and Ricky Davao will end up as best of friends.
