Philippine volleyball’s programs, including the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games this August, are expected to sail smoothly from now on after the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) decided to give the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. (LVPI) the temporary rights as the country’s national sports association.
The order was relayed by FIVB General Director Fabio Azebedo to warring volleyball officials.
For LVPI officials, the letter came like a whiff of fresh air as they are in the middle of prepara tions for the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games this August.
With the growing popularity of the sport, the country will be competing in both the women’s and men’s divisions in the biennial sportsfest.
While LVPI got the thumbs-up, its rival – the Philippine Volleyball Federation – got a bad news.
FIVB will propose to the 36th FIVB World Congress in 2018 to “expel PVF from the federation.”
“This decision is provisional in nature and is issued pending a final decision by the 36th FIVB World Congress in 2018,” said Azebedo in a letter dated May 5 and addressed to LVPI President Joey Romasanta and Philippine Volleyball Federation Chief Edgardo Cantada.
Azebedo, however, said “an appeal may be filed against this decision exclusively before the FIVB Appeals Panel.”
