Fancied BaliPure stakes its unbeaten run today when it squares off with Perlas in the Premier Volleyball League women’s tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Water Defenders gun for their fourth straight win in as many appearances in their 1 p.m. match with the Perlas Spikers to tighten their grip of the top spot.
Coming off a week-long respite since beating defending champion Pocari Sweat last May 4, 25-23, 25-22, 25-14, BaliPure hopes to display its usual fiery momentum against a squad aiming to bounce back from a recent loss.
Perlas totes a 2-2 win-loss record in the middle standings after bowing to Pocari, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19, last Tuesday.
BaliPure Coach Roger Gorayeb will rely anew on former three-time NCAA Most Valuable Player Grethcel Soltones to spearhead the squad with her usual down-the-wire attacks, while help will come from Jerrili Malabanan, Risa Sato, and Aiko Urdas.
Despite its inconsistencies, Perlas, for its part, still boasts of a formidable lineup in former Ateneo standouts Amy Ahomiro and Dzi Gervacio, and University of the Philippines’ Kathy Bersola.
Meanwhile, surging Pocari and Power Smashers tangle at 4 p.m. at the start of their second-round eliminations campaigns.
The Pocari Lady Warriors and the Power Smashers are currently at second spot with identical 3-2 marks.
Struggling Creamline and Air Force clash at 6:30 p.m. with hopes to bouncing back from their recent losses.
The Creamline Cool Smashers are still reeling from their 15-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-19 loss to Pocari two days back that put them at 1-3, while the Lady Jet Spikers are also coming off a 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 defeat to the Power Smashers also last Thursday.
