Buoyed by the success of its annual National Press Club Charity Races at the Philippine Racing Club in Cavite last May 1, the NPC will hold a media rapid chess team tournament on June 17-18 at the NPC Bulwagang Plaridel in Manila.
A project of the NPC, headed by president Paul Gutierrez and director/sports committee head Tina Maralit, the two-day competition is open to all media outlets composed of at least four regular NPC members and two guest players.
Beneficiary is the NPC Educational Fund/Medical Assistance program.
“The physical and mental well-being of our members is also a priority of the NPC. Aside from addresing this concern, we hope to promote friendship and camaraderie among our members thru regular sports competitions,” said Gutierrez.
Gutierrez appointed People’s Tonight sports editor Ed Andaya as the tournament director.
The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), headed by president/chairman Butch Pichay and executive director Red Dumuk, will assist in the conduct of the competition.
