Raquel Pempengco, mother of international singer Charice, greeted her daughter on her 25th birthday on Wednesday, May 10, saying that she would never stop loving her despite their lack of communication.
“Happy Birthday Charice! Malayo ka man sa akin. Wala man tayong komunikasyon, hindi pa rin mawawala na lagi kang nasa isip at puso ko kasi anak kita at ga-ling ka sa aking sinapupunan. Sana masaya ka at makaya mo ang mga pagsubok na darating pa sa ‘yo,” said Raquel in an open letter to her daughter on Facebook.
Raquel added: “Hindi ako magsasawa na mahalin kita kasi ako ang iyong ina. Dito lang ako lagi… Maligayang pagsilang muli sa ‘yo Charice.”
She also called on the public to respect the privacy of her daughter who split recently with her live-in partner Alyssa Quijano of four years.
Carl Cabral, handler of Charice, exclusively confirmed the split in a text message to ABS-CBN.
“Yes, Charice and Alyssa have broken up and it was a mutual decision,” said Cabral.
“Charice is not accepting any interviews and now taking a break. He’s doing fine and he’s happy. Thank you very much,” he added.
In November 2016, as she promoted her latest studio album “Catharsis,” Charice revealed that she is in charge of handling her own money now.
“Ngayon alam ko na. This is the first time na ako nagha-handle sa sarili ko and a lot of people do not know that,” said Charice when asked about how she takes care of her earnings during an interview then on “Tonight With Boy Abunda” on ABS-CBN.
“I’m in control and alam ko na po paano i-value ang lahat. When I hold the money ‘budget na natin ito’ and that’s how I want it,” she said.
In 2013, Charice had a falling out with her mother when she came out a lesbian on national television. She revealed then that she was in a relationship with Quijano.
Charice and her mother have reconciled in 2015.
Dubbed by Oprah Winfrey as the “most talented girl in the world,” Charice made history when she became the first Filipino singer and Asian artist to enter the Top 10 of the Billboard Chart Hot 200 albums in the US in 2010. Her self-titled international studio album peaked at No. 8.
Her song “Pyramid,” a duet with Iyaz and lifted from the same album, also made the Hot 100 chart.
Charice’s second international album was “Infinity” released in 2011. On the same year, she appeared in Season 2 of the hit American musical-drama-comedy television series “Glee.”
