Two policemen were hurt when firecrackers that were to be disposed of in a simple ceremony exploded recently in Boac, Marinduque.
Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, director of the MIMAROPA (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regional police identified those injured as Police Officer 2 Jeffrey Gutierrez and Senior Police Officer 2 Nelson Ricohermoso, both assigned at the Boac Police Station.
“They suffered serious injuries but they are now in stable condition,” said Mayor.
He said the victims, along with personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection were supposed to set out 82 boxes of confiscated firecrackers on Wednesday when the incident occurred.
The firecrackers were found abandoned in a public market of Boac in November last year.
The explosion, Mayor said, also damaged a police patrol car and a fire truck. (Aaron Recuenco)
